A few days ago, I came across this 52 week hand-lettering project. It really caught my attention because for quite some time now I’ve been wanting to get more familiar with the art of hand-lettering. I think it’s so neat. So inspiring. I have a good bit of hand-lettered art prints around my house that I’ve purchased from some of my favorite shops. I am just drawn to it. And I love it when a piece shares a story…part of our story. It’s just all around fantastic. So I’m going to try my best to participate in this challenge! The challenge is to complete a new piece of hand-lettering each week. There’s a prompt for each week that Miranti from Pen + Peplum shares and then you can share your work as the weeks go by! So, here goes nothing! Disclaimer: I really don’t know a whole lot about hand-lettering. Please don’t judge me while I learn! I’m setting out on this little journey to figure it all out and hopefully come out on the other end better than when I started.
Week 1 prompt: 2015…a word, a mantra or your focus for the new year.
As a family, we chose a word to focus on for the year. 2014 was a busy year. It was a challenging year. It was really good at certain points. And really bad at others. We look back and see it as a season that was preparing us for growth. And so the word we chose for 2015 is: GROW. That word applies to so many aspects of our lives. We want to grow together in our relationship as husband and wife, we want to grow personally, we want to grow as a family, we want our financial goals to grow, our ambitions to grow. We want to grow mentally and expand our understanding of life. These are only naming a few. There’s just a lot of growth needed; some of which is vital and some of which might not fall on the tippy-top of the priority list right away. But we’re aiming to grow all around.
I hand-lettered this using a Sakura Pigma Micron 02 pen, Strathmore drawing paper and a toddler at my feet.
So cheers to 2015! Do you have a word for the new year?
